Psychological causes of Impotence

Psychological factors are responsible for 20% – 25% of all cases of impotence. Some of the common psychological of erectile dysfunction causes are stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems or low self esteem.

  • Stress: Lot of stress can be damaging to your health. It may also have negative impact on your sexual life. In most cases once the stress has been reduced, full sexual function returns. Stress can be money related, job related or relationship problems.
  • Depression: Depression is one of the most common causes of impotence. Depression can reduce your sexual desire. Drugs used to treat depression may also cause impotence.
  • Anxiety: Once a man experiences erectile dysfunction, he may become worried that the sexual problem will occur again. This can result into performance anxiety.
  • Smoking and excess consumption of alcohol are frequently stated as contributory factors in the impotence.

Almost all men experience impotence at one time or another. Psychological causes are more common in younger men. For men whose erectile dysfunction is caused by psychological factor, therapy may be needed.

  • Impotence is a natural part of growing old: impotence is common in older men, but it is not a normal part of aging. Impotence should not be should not be ignored and should be viewed as a medical problem.
  • Viagra is the only effective treatment for impotence: Cialis and Levitra are also FDA approved treatments for impotence. They work exactly same like Viagra.
  • Men below 40years should not worry about impotence problem: Though impotence is common in older men, it increasing in younger men also as a result of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases.
  • There is no cure for impotence: Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are quite effective treatments for impotence. Other treatments include vacuum pump, injections and penile implants.
There are many treatments available now to treat impotence.

Physical causes of impotence

Erectile dysfunction also known as impotence is man’s inability to achieve erection for sexual intercourse. Cause of impotence can be physical or psychological or combination of both. Anxieties, stress, depression, problems in relationship are some of the psychological causes.

Following are some of the possible physical causes:

Diabetes: Diabetes can cause arteries any nerve damage, which can cause erectile dysfunction. Up to 70% of men with diabetes experience impotence at some point of life and the risk increases with time.

Medications: Some medicines may cause impotence. Medicines used to treat heart disease, diabetes, anxiety can cause erectile dysfunction.

Blockage of blood vessels: The conditions that cause blockage in the blood vessels leading to heart disease can also cause impotence. Artery blockage can cause impotence.

Alcohol & drugs: Smoking is one of the major factors for impotence. Drugs and excess consumption of alcohol can also cause impotence.

Injury: Injuries to the arteries, veins or bladder also commonly cause impotence.
